Why stay in Sanur

Sanur is laid-back, old-Bali charm on the calm east coast. A gentle beachfront lagoon protected by a reef, a flat seaside path perfect for morning walks and cycling, and great-value hotels make it a favourite for relaxed travellers, families and returning visitors.

It's quieter and less trendy than the west coast — and that's the appeal. It's also the main jumping-off point for the Nusa Islands (Nusa Penida, Lembongan).

Where to stay within Sanur

• Sanur Beach / the boardwalk: Book near the seafront path for easy access to the calm beach and cafés.
• North Sanur: Closer to the fast-boat harbour for the Nusa Islands.
• South Sanur: Quieter, with some lovely mid-range and boutique beach hotels.

What it costs

Sanur is one of the best-value beach areas in Bali. You'll find comfortable, well-run beach hotels and resorts for noticeably less than equivalent stays in Seminyak or Nusa Dua.
