How Many Days Do You Need in Bali?
Sample itineraries for 5, 7 and 10 days in Bali, and how to split your nights between areas.
Most people underestimate how spread out Bali is. Traffic is slow and the island's regions are genuinely different, so the answer to "how many days?" is really "how many areas do you want to experience?"
The short answer
- 5 days: Enough for one or two areas. Pick a coast base plus a taste of Ubud.
- 7 days: The sweet spot. Two or three areas without rushing.
- 10+ days: Add the Nusa Islands or a quieter region, and slow the whole thing down.
5 days in Bali
Keep it simple and don't over-move.
- Nights 1โ3: A coast base โ Seminyak (style), Canggu (surf/relaxed) or Sanur (calm/value).
- Nights 4โ5: Ubud for jungle, rice terraces and wellness.
7 days in Bali
The ideal first trip.
- Nights 1โ2: Seminyak or Canggu to settle in.
- Nights 3โ4: Ubud for nature and culture.
- Nights 5โ7: Uluwatu (clifftop drama) or Sanur/Nusa Dua (calm beaches) to finish relaxed.
10 days in Bali
Add space and a change of pace.
- Follow the 7-day plan, then add 2โ3 nights on Nusa Lembongan or Nusa Penida (fast boats leave from Sanur), or extend your favourite area rather than adding another.
A few planning rules
- Don't change hotels every night. Two or three bases beats five.
- Factor in transfer time โ Ubud to Uluwatu can take two hours.
- Book each area's hotel separately so you can pick the best stay for each part of your trip.
